Fr. Andrew Joesph O'Brien

Welcome

Fr. O'Brien was ordained in 1894. He first served as a curate in Maryhill before being appointed chaplain to the Good Shepherd Convent, Dalbeth followed by his appointment as parish priest to St. Joseph's, Milngavie.

He had a much longer tenure at St. Paul's than his predecessor, Canon O'Connor, serving almost 20 years. When St. Paul's and St. Mark's, Carntyne were combined Fr O'Brien took charge of both parishes.

He had to retire for health reasons and spent about 20 years in retirement until his death at Rothesay in April 1947 aged 79. His remains were brought back to Glasgow and a Requiem Mass was offered at Dalbeth in the presence of Archbishop Campbell. Mgr. Mullin, a lifelong friend, offered the Mass and was assisted by Fr. George Conlon parish priest of St. Paul's.

Mass of Thanks giving: procession and presentation of certificates - Solemnity of Corpus Christi 10th June at 10am Mass , attended also by The Knights of the Holy Sepulchure.
